Donald Earnest Cox, 63, of Canal Winchester, died Sunday, Dec. 25,
2005, at Licking Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 6, 1942, in Washington, D.C., to the
late Donald L. and Ada W. (Thorpe) Cox, he was a 1960 graduate of Lancaster
High School, where he was a star basketball player. He also played for North
Carolina State in 1961-62. After returning to Columbus, he was an
electrician with Local 683 IBEW for 42 years, working for Sterling Electric,
EPE, AJ Electric and retired in January 2002 from Mid-City Electric.
He was the beloved husband of Joann Cox for 37 years,
devoted father of Susan Manganello and her husband Anthony Manganello of
Pickerington, and grandfather of Joshua and Ryan Hahn and Brendan and Carter
Manganello; he is also survived by devoted sisters and brothers-in-law Donna
(Cox) and Harry Lobdill of Baltimore, Phyllis (Cox) and Paul Roe of
Lancaster, Lou Ann (Cox) Shy of Lewis Center, Renee (Cox) Rhoades and her
son Michael Rhoades of Grandview and brothers and sisters-in-law William and
Loretta Cox of Lancaster, Jim and Vicki Cox of Millersport; sister-in-law
Linda Orr of Hillsboro, Texas; many nieces and nephews; and special friends,
Charles and Shirley Bailey.
He was preceded in death by brother-in-law Walter Shy, Jr.
Friends may
visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Dwayne R. Spence Funeral
Home, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester, where funeral service will be
at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Mel Truex officiating. Interment Floral
Hills Memory Gardens.
